Royong primarily partners with smaller, lesser-known NGOs that often don't have adequate funds, resources or skills to launch fundraising campaigns on their own. NGOs have to meet a few important criteria to be selected by Royong, namely: 1) Registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) - to ensure adherence to the administrative and financial standards set out by ROS and the Home Ministry of Malaysia. 2) Has a bank account in the NGOs name – no contributions raised via Royong will ever be transferred to an individual or business' bank account . 3) Depending on the type of work the NGO does, further registration with Malaysian authorities may also be verified, for example with the Ministry of Health, or with the Welfare Department under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
